President’s message

Greetings Colleagues,

Election results were announced at the end of year event.  In case you missed the party, our President Elect for 2024 is Gabriela Perez, MPH, CIC and 2024 Secretary is Ashley Byckhowski, BSN, RN, CIC.

It has been an honor and a privilege to serve this past year as your APIC DFW Chapter President.  I would like to sincerely thank all of our members who participated in committees and the board this past year.  Our volunteers are what makes this chapter great.  Through extraordinary efforts of our volunteers the chapter is able offer our members things that other chapters and organizations may not have the resources to do.

Just a few examples are:

  • Professional Advancement Committee (PAC) helps members study for certification

  • Conference Committee planned our fabulous conference this year at Lone Star Park

  • Surveillance SIG that keeps us up to date on the NHSN Surveillance definitions and protocols

  • Mentoring SIG provides information on numerous relevant topics to build IP competency

  • Government Affairs Committee keeps us in the loop on upcoming legislation and public policy and advocates for the IP profession

  • Member Engagement Committee planned an incredible end of year event on December 1st

  • Education Program Committee that schedules education for CE’s throughout the year based on members professional education needs

  • Awards Committee that updates awards criteria, selects nominees that met the criteria, and presents awards at the end of year event

  • Historian committee that documents chapter activities and represent the chapter on social media

  • Nominating committee helps encourage potential candidates to run for elected positions or participate in committees

  • Vendor Liaison engages vendor support necessary to help fund chapter activities

  • Our board plans runs the chapter operations

Our volunteers work toward the goals of the APIC strategic plan to help us realize the mission and vision of the chapter.    If you are not already involved in volunteering with the chapter, please consider getting involved in the coming year.

We have an opportunity to help support important IP research by taking part in the Texas IP Cross-Sectional Study.  Details are below and survey link is also on the website.

I wish each of you happy holidays.

 Regards,
